Letters by William Swetland, chiefly to his wife, describing military action near Plattsburgh during the War of 1812 as well as trips to Philadelphia and the West, 1810-1859. Also included are letters to Swetland, 1807-1857; school and college compositions and public addresses, 1807-1810; and a complaint to the Justice of the Peace and the Grand Jurors of Castleton, Vt. that Oliver Carver is guilty of unnecessary traveling on the Sabbath, 1784. The collection also includes an 1819 lease between John Palmer and Henry Delord for land in Plattsburgh, N.Y. and several invitations sent to Swetland by individuals and groups.
